A Game of Thrones Chapter Thirtynine

Ned had referred to their countenances just as he knew his own once, however the years siphon at a man’s recollections, even those he has pledged never to overlook. In the fantasy they were just shadows, dark phantoms on ponies made of fog. They were seven, confronting three. In the fantasy as it had been throughout everyday life. However these were no conventional three. They held up before the round pinnacle, the red piles of Dorne at their backs, their white shrouds blowing in the breeze. What's more, these were no shadows; their countenances consumed clear, even at this point. Ser Arthur Dayne, the Sword of the Morning, had a miserable grin all the rage. The grip of the greatsword Dawn jabbed up over his correct shoulder. Ser Oswell Whent was on one knee, honing his sharp edge with a whetstone. Over his white-enameled rudder, the dark bat of his House spread its wings. Between them stood furious old Ser Gerold Hightower, the White Bull, Lord Commander of the Kingsguard. â€Å"I searched for you on the Trident,† Ned said to them. â€Å"We were not there,† Ser Gerold replied. â€Å"Woe to the Usurper in the event that we had been,† said Ser Oswell. â€Å"When King’s Landing fell, Ser Jaime slew your lord with a brilliant blade, and I pondered where you were.† â€Å"Far away,† Ser Gerold stated, â€Å"or Aerys would yet sit the Iron Throne, and our bogus sibling would consume in seven hells.† â€Å"I descended on Storm’s End to lift the siege,† Ned let them know, â€Å"and the Lords Tyrell and Redwyne plunged their standards, and every one of their knights bowed the knee to promise us fealty. I was sure you would be among them.† â€Å"Our knees don't twist easily,† said Ser Arthur Dayne. â€Å"Ser Willem Darry is fled to Dragonstone, with your sovereign and Prince Viserys. I figured you may have cruised with him.† â€Å"Ser Willem is a decent man and true,† said Ser Oswell. â€Å"But not of the Kingsguard,† Ser Gerold brought up. â€Å"The Kingsguard doesn't flee.† â€Å"Then or now,† said Ser Arthur. He wore his rudder. â€Å"We swore a vow,† clarified old Ser Gerold. Ned’s phantoms climbed next to him, with shadow blades close by. They were seven against three. â€Å"And now it begins,† said Ser Arthur Dayne, the Sword of the Morning. He unsheathed Dawn and held it with two hands. The sharp edge was pale as milkglass, bursting at the seams with light. â€Å"No,† Ned said with misery in his voice. â€Å"Now it ends.† As they met up in a surge of steel and shadow, he could hear Lyanna shouting. â€Å"Eddard!† she called. A tempest of flower petals blew over a blood-streaked sky, as blue as the eyes of death. â€Å"Lord Eddard,† Lyanna called once more. â€Å"I promise,† he murmured. â€Å"Lya, I guarantee . . . â€Å" â€Å"Lord Eddard,† a man resounded from the dull. Moaning, Eddard Stark opened his eyes. Twilight spilled through the tall windows of the Tower of the Hand. â€Å"Lord Eddard?† A shadow remained over the bed. â€Å"How . . . how long?† The sheets were tangled, his leg braced and put. A dull pulse of agony shot up his side. â€Å"Six days and seven nights.† The voice was Vayon Poole’s. The steward held a cup to Ned’s lips. â€Å"Drink, my lord.† â€Å"What . . . ?† â€Å"Only water. Maester Pycelle said you would be thirsty.† Ned drank. His lips were dry and broken. The water tasted sweet as nectar. â€Å"The lord left orders,† Vayon Poole disclosed to him when the cup was vacant. â€Å"He would talk with you, my lord.† â€Å"On the morrow,† Ned said. â€Å"When I am stronger.† He was unable to confront Robert now. The fantasy had left him frail as a little cat. â€Å"My lord,† Poole stated, â€Å"he told us to send you to him the second you opened your eyes.† The steward busied himself lighting a bedside flame. Ned reviled delicately. Robert was never known for his understanding. â€Å"Tell him I’m too frail to even consider coming to him. On the off chance that he wishes to talk with me, I ought to be satisfied to get him here. I trust you wake him from a sound rest. Also, call . . . † He was going to state Jory when he recalled. â€Å"Summon the skipper of my guard.† Alyn ventured into the bedchamber a couple of seconds after the steward had disappeared. â€Å"My lord.† â€Å"Poole discloses to me it has been six days,† Ned said. â€Å"I must know how things stand.† â€Å"The Kingslayer is fled the city,† Alyn let him know. â€Å"The talk is he’s ridden back to Casterly Rock to join his dad. The tale of how Lady Catelyn took the Imp is on each lip. I have put on additional watchmen, on the off chance that it please you.† â€Å"It does,† Ned guaranteed him. â€Å"My daughters?† â€Å"They have been with you consistently, my master. Sansa implores discreetly, yet Arya . . . † He wavered. â€Å"She has not let out the slightest peep since they brought you back. She is a savage seemingly insignificant detail, my master. I have never observed such displeasure in a girl.† â€Å"Whatever happens,† Ned stated, â€Å"I need my little girls remained careful. I dread this is just the beginning.† â€Å"No mischief will come to them, Lord Eddard,† Alyn said. â€Å"I stake my life on that.† â€Å"Jory and the others . . . â€Å" â€Å"I gave them over to the quiet sisters, to be sent north to Winterfell. Jory would need to lie alongside his grandfather.† It would need to be his granddad, for Jory’s father was covered far toward the south. Martyn Cassel had died with the rest. Ned had pulled the pinnacle down a short time later, and utilized its wicked stones to manufacture eight cairns upon the edge. It was said that Rhaegar had named that place the pinnacle of happiness, yet for Ned it was a harsh memory. They had been seven against three, yet just two had lived to ride away; Eddard Stark himself and the little crannogman, Howland Reed. He didn't think it omened well that he should dream that fantasy again after such a significant number of years. â€Å"You’ve progressed nicely, Alyn,† Ned was stating when Vayon Poole returned. The steward bowed low. â€Å"His Grace is without, my master, and the sovereign with him.† Ned propelled himself up higher, flinching as his leg trembled with torment. He had not expected Cersei to come. It didn't look good that she had. â€Å"Send them in, and leave us. What we need to state ought not go past these walls.† Poole pulled back discreetly. Robert had set aside some effort to dress. He wore a dark velvet doublet with the delegated stag of Baratheon worked upon the bosom in brilliant string, and a brilliant mantle with a shroud of dark and gold squares. A cup of wine was in his grasp, his face previously flushed from drink. Cersei Lannister entered behind him, a jeweled headdress in her hair. â€Å"Your Grace,† Ned said. â€Å"Your pardons. I can't rise.† â€Å"No matter,† the lord said abruptly. â€Å"Some wine? From the Arbor. A decent vintage.† â€Å"A little cup,† Ned said. â€Å"My head is still overwhelming from the milk of the poppy.† â€Å"A man in your place should check himself blessed that his head is still on his shoulders,† the sovereign pronounced. â€Å"Quiet, woman,† Robert snapped. He presented to Ned a cup of wine. â€Å"Does the leg despite everything torment you?† â€Å"Some,† Ned said. His head was swimming, yet it would not do to admit to shortcoming before the sovereign. â€Å"Pycelle swears it will mend clean.† Robert scowled. â€Å"I take it you comprehend what Catelyn has done?† â€Å"I do.† Ned took a little swallow of wine. â€Å"My woman spouse is chaste, Your Grace. Everything she did she did at my command.† â€Å"I am not satisfied, Ned,† Robert protested. â€Å"By what right do you dare lay hands on my blood?† Cersei requested. â€Å"Who do you think you are?† â€Å"The Hand of the King,† Ned advised her with frigid kindness. â€Å"Charged by your own master spouse to keep the king’s harmony and authorize the king’s justice.† â€Å"You were the Hand,† Cersei started, â€Å"but nowâ€â€ â€Å"Silence!† the lord thundered. â€Å"You asked him an inquiry and he addressed it.† Cersei died down, cold with outrage, and Robert turned around to Ned. â€Å"Keep the king’s harmony, you state. Is this how you keep my tranquility, Ned? Seven men are dead . . . â€Å" â€Å"Eight,† the sovereign revised. â€Å"Tregar kicked the bucket at the beginning of today, of the blow Lord Stark gave him.† â€Å"Abductions on the kingsroad and tanked butcher in my streets,† the ruler said. â€Å"I won't have it, Ned.† â€Å"Catelyn had valid justification for taking the Impâ€â€ â€Å"I stated, I won't have it! To hellfire with her reasons. You will order her to discharge the diminutive person on the double, and you will come to terms with Jaime.† â€Å"Three of my men were butchered before my eyes, in light of the fact that Jaime Lannister wished to rebuke me. Am I to overlook that?† â€Å"My sibling was not the reason for this quarrel,† Cersei told the ruler. â€Å"Lord Stark was returning tanked from a massage parlor. His men assaulted Jaime and his gatekeepers, even as his significant other assaulted Tyrion on the kingsroad.† â€Å"You realize me superior to that, Robert,† Ned said. â€Å"Ask Lord Baelish in the event that you question me. He was there.† â€Å"I’ve conversed with Littlefinger,† Robert said. â€Å"He claims he headed out to bring the gold shrouds before the battling started, however he concedes you were coming back from some whorehouse.† â€Å"Some whorehouse? Damn your eyes, Robert, I went there to examine your girl! Her mom has named her Barra. She appears as though that first young lady you fathered, when we were young men together in the Vale.† He watched the sovereign as he talked; her face was a veil, still and pale, selling out nothing. Robert flushed. â€Å"Barra,† he protested.

Superstition And Witchcraft Resulted In Many Being Hanged Or Essays

Strange notion and black magic brought about many being hanged or in jail. In the seventeenth century, a confidence in witches and black magic was practically general. In Salem Massachusetts where the witch preliminaries occur numerous individuals who are dubious is blamed for black magic and hanged. Arthur Miller composed a play called The Crucible. It depends on the Salem witch preliminaries. The Salem witch preliminaries change numerous people groups lives and even prompted passing for a few. The intensity of strange notion and gossip can twist from reality. Four pastors of Salem joined Matther, and they spent an entirety day in the place of the tormented in fasting and supplication. The outcome of which was the conveyance of one of the family from the intensity of the witch. A niece and little girl of the ward serve at Danvers were first harassed. Their activities startled other youngsters, who soon demonstrated similar manifestations, for example, loss of craving and disorder. A conviction immediately spread over Salem and all through the express that abhorrent spirits are being found in Salem. Dread claimed the psyches of almost all the individuals, and the fear made the tribulation spread broadly. The harrowed, affected by the witchery, conceded to see the types of their tormentors with their internal vision (Miller 1082). also, would quickly charge some individual seen with the fallen angel. Now and again the tormented and the charged turned out to be various to such an extent that nobody was sheltered from doubt and its results. Indeed, even the individuals who were dynamic in the arraignments became objects of doubt. Vengeance regularly actuated people to blame other people who were honest and when some announcement of the denounced would move the court what's more, crowd for the detainee. I saw Goody Osborn with the fallen angel (Miller 1060). The informer would proclaim that they saw the demon remaining adjacent to the casualty murmuring the words in their ear. The preposterous proclamation would be accepted by the appointed authorities. A few, scared and with the expectation of sparing their lives or dodging the abhorrences of detainment, would erroneously blame their companions and family members, while others moved by similar expectations, would erroneously admit themselves to be witches. A large number of the informers and witnesses came forward and distributed disavowals of reality of their declaration, to spare their own lives. Mr. Paris in the Danver family, who was one of the most solid investigators of supposed witches, was constrained to leave his charge and leave the nation. The affirmations of blunder and pleadings for leniency, could not reestablish the spirits of the individuals who are hanged, nor make changes for the torments' others had endured. The stunt had won in most prominent want over a half year, and it was not diminishing for more than a year. During that time nineteen had been hanged, and Corey Giles who is executed by the shocking procedure of squeezing to death with stones since he would state whenever was liable or guiltless. He proceeded to saymore weight (Miller 1113); until he passed on. In doing as such, his family could keep his property. Others had been tormented or alarmed into a admission of blame or detained. As should be obvious the intensity of strange notion and the noise can twist reality. The Salem witch preliminaries were stunning and it changes numerous people groups lives. The faith in witches didn't end with the unusual fervor. This abnormal scene in the historical backdrop of Massachusetts surprised the socialized world, and made a horrible impact on others. - Work Cited Mill operator, Arthur. The Crucible. So you want to be a student-athlete

So you want to be a student-athlete Hi everybody, I play ice hockey in the winter and lacrosse in the spring here at MIT and spend a ton of time practicing, cross training and competing in my sports. I want to share my perspective on the pros and cons of playing a sport (or two) here and what type of adjustments being a successful student athlete at MIT requires. Personally, I wouldnt trade my spots on the hockey and lacrosse teams for any other opportunity at MIT. The pros simply outweigh the short list of cons. Yet I have friends who decided not to continue playing their competitive sports after high school or who quit their sports while at MIT because they decided the commitment wasnt worth it. So its a personal choice. Lets take a look at the ups and downs of MIT athletics. Playing hockey and lacrosse keeps me in shape year round. I never have to worry about voluntarily getting to the gym when I dont want to and the freshman 15 was just an abstract concept. If I didnt play sports, I hope I would be in shape but competing interscholastically forces me to stay healthy. Another benefit to competing is the sense of camaraderie and intense leadership training being a member (or being a leader) of a team entails. From aspiring to be voted captain to fulfilling smaller freshman duties, being a part of team builds character and encourages strong relationship building skills. Practice for most sports begins at 5pm and goes for an hour or two until 7pm at the latest. For both my sports, we practice Monday through Friday, and occasionally on Saturdays. We typically dont practice on game days (two games/week in season). Sundays very rarely have commitments. So thats 10-12 hours/week before including travel time or pre/post practice habits (taping up, stretching, bi king, icing, or showering). A lot of time. Combining this schedule with a rather rigorous (understatement much?) academic workload and sprinkling in other social and extra-curricular events becomes a free time cruncher. On the positive side, this constant stream of commitments keeps me focused and disciplined during the semesters. Its worth mentioning that the MIT athletic facilities are amazing. I use the ice rink, the Jack Berry turf field, the Steinbrenner stadium, the athletic training room, the weight/fitness room and various varsity locker rooms. Frequently I have trouble with the laundry system, but other than that Im really pleased with the facilities and management. The big drawbacks of playing a sport at MIT, for me, all relate to a time crunch. This time crunch presents itself in a number of fashions. First, on a day to day basis, athletes have fewer hours to dedicate to psets, studying for exams, and pursuing extracurricular (research, leadership positions on campus, etc) and social (parties, outings to Boston, relaxing with friends) interests. Second, practices (in most cases) are scheduled into the 5p-7p time slot. Most, if not all MIT undergraduate classes play into this schedule well by avoiding scheduling lectures, labs or recitations in these hours. However, if you want to cross-register (at Harvard or Wellesley for example) or if you want to take graduate level classes (most notably any Sloan (course 15) management classes), realize that these classes do not always avoid the 5p-7p time block. There are certain classes that I will not take while here because of this restriction. Bummer. Third, this time crunch also manifests itself on a larger scale Winter sports often compete during IAP (all of January) and spring sports frequently travel or compete during spring break in March. So while I can enroll in IAP classes and participate in research, I cannot leave campus, say, to do an international community service or design project (see D-lab). Its a trade-off. For spring break, I am already committed to a trip to Florida with the lacrosse team. Those are the biggest downsides. MIT has various support systems in place to help student athletes. The sports medicine department has many functions from training and nutritional analysis to injury prevention and treatment. The student athlete advisory committee (SAAC), a student run group, develops and communicates changes in policy and procedure with regards to MIT athletics and athletic facilities. All varsity sports are Division III except for crew (which is D-I). MIT also has over 30 club sport offerings. Lacrosse is D-III, while hockey is a club team. Although this is entirely personal, I love the level of competition. Athletes here care about results, and train hard. But we are not completely oblivious to other uniquely college (or MIT) opportunities as some more intense D-I programs are. I am a brother in a fraternity, I somehow find time to write for this blog, I frequently participate in UROPs and I have a pretty solid social life. So playing a sport at MIT doesnt mean shutting other opportunities out, but it does mean sacrifice. For me, the tradeoff makes sense. Staying healthy and being a member of a team in college is of real importance to me. Is it to you?

Once you have your spreadsheet ready to use and you begin the process, you can use this  timeline  to stay on track with dates and deadlines. Keep in mind though, that every schools deadlines may vary slightly, so make sure youre aware of all the different deadlines. Decide if Youre Using a Consultant While most families are able to navigate the private school search themselves, some opt to engage the assistance of an educational consultant. Its important that you find a reputable one, and the best place to determine that is by referencing the IECA website. If you decide to contract with one, make sure that you communicate regularly with your consultant. While the admissions staff will want to interview your child, they may also want to meet with you. Remember: the school does not have to accept your child. So put your best foot forward. Take some time to prepare a list of questions to ask, too, because the interview is also an opportunity for you to assess if the school is right for your child.   Testing Standardized admissions tests are required by most schools. The SSAT and ISEE are the most common tests. Prepare for these thoroughly. Make sure your child gets lots of practice. Make sure she understands the test, and how it works. Your child will also have to submit a writing sample or essay. Want a great SSAT prep tool? Check out this Guide to the SSAT ebook.   Applications Pay attention to the applications deadlines which are typically mid-January, though some schools have rolling admissions with no specific deadlines. Most applications are for an entire school year though from time to time a school will accept an applicant in the middle of an academic year.   Many schools have online applications. Several schools have a common application which saves you lots of time as you only complete one application which is sent to several schools you designate. Dont forget to complete your Parents Financial Statement(PFS) and submit it as well. Part of the applications process is getting teacher references completed and submitted, so make sure to give your teachers plenty of time to complete those. You will also have to complete a Parent Statement or Questionnaire. Your child will have his own Candidate Statement to fill out as well. Give yourself plenty of time to get these tasks done. Acceptances Acceptances are generally sent in mid-March. If your child is wait-listed, dont panic. A place might just open up. Williams Date: August, 18th, 2012 Subject: Final report on Grenades Booth at Yeses Expo 2012. The sky of Yeses was 11th up with spectacular fireworks at 9:20 p. M. We will write a custom essay sample on Expo 2012, Yeosu, South Korea or any similar topic only for you Order Now On Sunday as the city celebrated the end of 93-day Yeses Expo 2012, which kicked off on May 12. Hundreds of spectators, participants and performers joined hands and danced in circles to mark the successful wrapping up of the event. The closing ceremony, which began at 7:30 p. M. Was attended by UN Secretary-General Ban Ski-moon and Prime Minister Kim Hang-ski. Who both commended the hosts for doing a sterling Job on the Expo. Yeses Expo 201 2 held under the theme â€Å"The Living Ocean and Coast† reached Its target of attracting 8 million visitors. 104 countries participated In the expo and each country, including Grenade aimed to highlight workable solutions for achieving sustainable development and co-excellences with the living ocean as seen through its underwater sculpture park display. Grenade’s Participation In Expo 2012 Reflecting the Importance of Its relationship with the ocean, Grenade presented Its home through a visually impressive booth, informative exhibits, and friendly interaction. The general public was introduced to the Moline Underwater Sculpture Park, Nutmeg, Carnival, the yachting sector and Grenade as a tourist and business trading destination. The Grenadier Booth was very well received by the general public, Pips, and business participants, and was one of the most popular at Expo 2012. Participating countries were equally complimentary about the success of our booth and appreciative of its role in furthering the work in ocean conservation. Our presence at Expo 2012 was an excellent platform to promote links between Grenade and Korea through trade, investment, people-to-people and tourism contacts. 2,223,131 visitors toured Grenade’s booth. In addition 65, PIP delegations, including 2 heads of state/government, 11 ministers, and senior officials and business delegations from abroad visited the booth. The Grenadier booth clearly demonstrated Its worth In terms of the violators numbers, confirming a strong Interest in our country by the general public. The key to the success of the booth was the innovative and iconic underwater sculpture marine park display which drew many people and reactions to the piece. This made Grenade’s booth stand out from other participating countries in the Atlantic west pavilion by creating a conversation as to the purpose of the park. Thus, visitors were able to get a well-rounded and insightful view not only tot the sculpture but tot Grenade as a whole. Grenade also participated in Carom’s Regional Day on July 30th. Six countries; Antigen Barbuda, Dominica, Grenade, Guyana, SST. Kits Nevis and Surname, participated in the days events. Minister Gillis Roberts represented Grenade and the Secretary General of CAROM, Mr.. La Ruche delivered the address on behalf of CAROM. Products Another important aspect to Grenade’s booth was the Nutmeg and Nutmeg products. Many inquiries and request for information were made especially for De La Grenade products and Molehill’s Nutmeg Spray and Cream. Many were given direct information on manufacturers and others information were written down whilst many left their business cards. Several visitors also requested information on the importation and distribution of nutmeg. The Nutmeg was prominently displayed in he glass cases available and all nutmeg bi products placed therein. It attracted large crowds who were given demonstrations on how to open, grate, it uses and other relevant information. Many have heard about it but never seen it and only know of it as the most expensive spice. Recommendations Grenade’s booth was well traversed by thousands of visitors during its 3 month participation in the 2012 Expo. Keen interest was shown in Grenade as a travel / tourism destination and its products. Its charm and beauty captivated audiences who were introduced to images and information about Grenade. However, the theme could have been better presented in terms of the description given along with the photos. An important piece as the underwater sculpture should have clearly stated the purpose more than anything else. People who read it still had lots of question as to â€Å"why’ was it done. Each piece should have had an inviting title. Instead of Just ‘Wickedest† the display could have read â€Å"From Despair to Hope† or â€Å"Ocean conservation through artificial coral reef†. The BIB was looking forward most to how each country â€Å"developed† the theme of the expo and although it was a masterpiece, he theme was not quite well explained as to how we were dealing with conservation of the ocean. During the Judging period, each BIB member spent no more than two minutes at the booths. Also, each booth operator should have had business cards by which they could be contacted. Many visitors have requested our contact information and it had to be written on scraps of paper. Visitors also had to write information on paper for us; even some were lost due the busy day to day operations from the booth. When a laptop was available, immediate responses went out to any queries. Those who requested information on De la Grenade product were handed out cards that were provided from Ms. La Grenade. One other slight hindrance was the slow response to information requested from Grenade. Albeit the difference in time. Feedback on important information was necessary for a smoother flowing operation. A thorough checklist should have been done for the required items needed for booth operators If Grenade is to participate at another expo, our Ministry should bring in the perspective booth operators earlier to assist with preparations including theme placement and checklist for required activities. Foreign Affairs should contact any diplomat representing Grenade in the Country in which the expo is to be held. Honorary Consul Lee was very disappointed that no one contacted him. He had to tint out trot the organizing committee it Grenade was represented at the Expo and contacted us directly. Before our Commissioner of section left an appointment was made to meet with Consul Lee. During the â€Å"meeting† at the MOVE Hotel, he expressed his disappointment concerning the situation and informed Mr.. Charles and myself hat he was not there on official government business since he was not informed of our participation through the right channels; but wanted to meet with us to talk about the expo and Grenade. Conclusion I worked well with the number of visitors to the booth and offered our â€Å"Grenadier warmth and welcoming smiles† to all. Questions were answered and relative information shared on manufacturers, tourism and Grenade. We shared our countries rich heritage, cultural diversity and openness for doing business with the Korea and the rest of the world Overall, I do believe that the Expo Committee met its objectives in bringing the world together to highlight, promote and to create awareness of the important role that the ocean plays in every aspect of human lives The Organizing Committee of Expo 2012 must applauded for the way in which it delivered its messages about climate change, maritime resource development, and maritime environment preservation to the public in a fun and accessible manner. Our Government, especially the Environment, Ministry of Foreign Trade, and export development must also be commended for taking on this initiative for participating in EXPO 2012 How to cite Expo 2012, Yeosu, South Korea, Papers

Motivational Problems in the Workplace

Workplace stress is a depression resulting from an interaction of a person to his/her work environment leading to an inability to balance work with other aspects of life and attracting systematic building up of a negative response emotionally. Causes of stress, thus referred to as stressors are elements or circumstances leading a person to anticipate a feeling of exceeding psychological and physical demands on ability to comfortably cope up with the situation.Advertising We will write a custom research paper sample on Motivational Problems in the Workplace specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Though difficult to explain a definite cause, stressors mostly are associated with certain occupations like policing where fear of recurring violence, emotional repugnant scene or unstable work shifts constantly create an imbalance in the emotions and thoughts. Besides, it is also associated with physical factors at work place like heat, cold, ex cessive noisy environment and physiological aspects destabilizing body balance such as limited recuperating interval between work shifts. In addition, unrealistic deadlines among other excessive demanding works and personal cognitive factors inclusive of health issues, relationship, and inability to adjust to prevailing climatic order are also associated with stress (Schneider, Chung, Yusko 1993). Stress in practicality is such a complex phenomena and it is very rare for two or more individuals to undergo through it the same way in the work environment. According to arousal motivation theory, each victim seems to display a unique sign for onset of stress and should such an individual remain silent on his/her stress, then the employer may not be in a position to know in order to assist with an alternative solution. Employer may eventually learn of the same only if in the structure of such an organization has confidence oriented systems for reassuring the victims of a comprehensive so lution. As the bucket model theory asserts, stress matures up upon complete drainage of a person’s bank of personal resilience as a result of work conflicts, unfavorable working conditions, and emotionally straining assignments outweighing supportive relationships, interesting works, rest and good health. In order to control disastrous levels of stress, regulators are constantly needed (Schneider, Chung, Yusko, 1993, p.56). Though life is meaningless without challenges, balance between rest and stimulation is necessary.Goodness or bad state of stress is dependent on the victim tolerance and subsequent recovery period. Prolonged depression has serious negative influence in work and life of a person. With time if successfully handled, stress may turn into a monotonous habit ending up stressing the victim. In addition to work environment causes, second job, family problems or physical health may increase levels of depression when combined with work related challenges. As a remed y, at every stage of workforce development, an employer is advisable to set up simple practical strategies to get to know and â€Å"offer solutions to employee’s artificial impairment before it generates into a workplace risk or harm† (Kinicki Kreitner, 2009, p.47).Advertising Looking for research paper on business economics? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Tolerance levels for stress is dependent of the interest attached to a work, support from family or work relationships, physical ,and psychological health and the nature of work causing stress. Eventual resilience will vary depending on the period taken to heal as each stress is totally different from another neither do two individuals undergo it the same way. Also, there is the passive aggressive behavior characterized by indirect expression of negative feelings than openly handling them. There is always a clear disconnect between actions and spoken words. Therefore, symptoms of this behavior include procrastination, inefficiency, sullenness, irritability, stubbornness, hostile or cynical attitude, constant complains of in appreciation, and resentments on other people’s views. To reverse this disorder, supportive family members should convince the victim to seek assistance from a therapist besides improving the work environment as noted by the humanistic motivation theory. However, the solution lies on him/her accepting that there is a problem and is ready to accept a solution. To effectively handle the above work place related stress disorders, I would concentrate on establishing a good work place relationship as a security strategy for confidential sharing of work related hiccups with the employer or a trusted staff mate. In addition, I would concentrate on preventive policy of creating informal inter-group meetings where the staff is given an opportunity to share on experiences and encourage each other. I would then research on any pre evidence of a recognizable stressor they knew or ought to have known because of the work nature besides the work environment. Instead of playing blame game, I would then concentrate on addressing these issues and where necessary provide rehabilitation support since prolonged periods of stress may be catastrophic in safety management, heart complications, substance abuse, irritability and anxiousness, failed relationships, indecisiveness, frequent headaches, and error prone (Kinicki Kreitner, 2009). Conclusively, absenteeism, low morale, high accidents at work, low quality work, overdependence on employees assistance program, and low turnover are associated with stressors which results in improper handing work culture, disrespectfulness to the need to constantly monitor structures in place handling behavior and employee’s interests. In most cases, short term depression may be a challenging motivational factor when it falls under good stress. References Kinicki, A. , Kreitner, R. (2009). Cyberpunk essays

Cyberpunk essays 1. Cyberpunk is a literary movement of the late 20th century. The literary aspect of cyberpunk deals with science fiction that is usually relatively easy to read and deals with futuristic computer technology. The term cyberpunk is used to describe a type of writing that is based on technology that has not been invented yet, and has innovative techniques that only seem like future research and inventions could bring. 2. Cyberpunk the literary movement has to do with the aspect of authors writing about future computer capabilities. The books are science fiction that deals with bioengineering, computers, and futuristic beings. Cyberpunk the subculture is the society within cyberpunk. Eventually, cyberpunk began to die out. When tyrant Microsoft came along, they helped to damper the thought of hackers and cyberpunks alike. However, the subculture within cyberpunk did not allow it to die out, but to move on, learning new ways to evolve. Cyberspace is another whole world in itself. One can just simply connect to cyberspace, and start a whole new life. Any individual can be whoever they want to be, whenever they want to be. Cyberspace not only allows people to be whatever they want, but allows them to do whatever they want with limited freedom. One can find any information on any topic; one can go shopping to purchase items; one can even receive knowledge over top-secret technologies. Cyberspace is a movement that originated within cyberpunk, and grew larger with the invention of the Internet. 3. Even though there is unlimited freedom over the Internet, with unlimited knowledge available, the Internet is not perfect. Web sites are hosted on web servers. A server can be generalized as a super computer that holds the files for the web page, and sends them to each computer that tries to connect and download them. Just like a home personal computer does, the servers must sometimes have problems and go on a pe...

Token Boards for Reinforcing Behavior in Classroom

Token Boards for Reinforcing Behavior in Classroom Like any educational tool, a token board is most effective when used consistently within the context of a comprehensive classroom management plan. Token boards have been associated with Applied Behavior Analysis, as they provide a simple and visual method of structuring and providing reinforcement. They can be used to narrow or broaden your reinforcement schedule. They can be used to teach children how to defer gratification. They can be used narrowly to address specific behavior problems. At the same time, unless you and your staff or you and your collaborating teacher are clear about how a token is earned, you can end up with a lot of dysfunction. The purpose is to provide clarity about which behaviors, even academic, that you are reinforcing. If you get preoccupied and dont consistently award tokens, you also undermine your whole reinforcement plan. For these reasons, its important to address how you make and use a token board in your classroom. Basically, a token board has individual pictures or tokens that are held in place by Velcro. The tokens are stored on the back of the board until they are moved to the front of the board. Usually, the number of tokens is determined by how long you believe you can defer reinforcement. Many token boards (as the one depicted above) may include a place for the students choice of reinforcement represented by a picture.   Token Boards Used for Reinforcement Creating a clear sense of contingency is the first and primary purpose of a token board. Your student needs to know that he/she receives a token and reinforcement for exhibiting a particular behavior. Teaching contingency is a process of first establishing one to one correspondence. In Applied Behavior Analysis, contingency is critical in order to match the reinforce to the behavior. A Token Board becomes a visual schedule for reinforcement. Whether you put a child on an 8 token schedule or a 4 token schedule, you are expecting a child to understand that they will receive access to reinforcement when they fill their board. There are ways to build toward an eight token board, including starting with a smaller number, or starting with the board partially filled. Still, the likelihood of increasing the behavior, whether it is communication or academic, is to be sure that the child knows that behavior is being reinforced. Addressing Specific Behaviors with a Token Board To start a behavior change program, you need to identify both the behavior you want to change and the behavior that should take its place (replacement behavior.) Once you have identified the replacement behavior, you then need to create a situation where you are reinforcing it quickly using your board. Example Sean sits very poorly at circle time. He gets up frequently and throws himself on the floor if he doesnt get access to a preferred toy, Thomas the Tank Engine. The classroom has a set of cube chairs that are used for circle time. The teacher has determined that the replacement behavior is: John will stay seated in his cube during group with both feet on the floor, participating appropriately in group activities (singing, take a turn, listening quietly.) The Stimulus-Response will be Sitting, please. The naming phrase will be Good sitting, Sean. A classroom aide sits behind Sean in group: when he sits for approximately a minute quietly a token is placed on his chart. When he gets five tokens, he has access to his preferred toy for 2 minutes. When the timer goes off, Sean is returned to the group with Sitting, please! After several successful days, the reinforcement period is expanded to about two minutes, with three-minute access to the reinforcer. Over a couple weeks, this could be expanded to sitting for the entire group (20 minutes) with a 15-minute free place break. Targeting specific behaviors in this way can be extraordinarily effective. The example above is based on a real child with real behavior issues, and it took only a couple of weeks to effect the desired result. Cost Response: Taking a token off the board once it is earned is known as cost response. Some districts or schools may not permit response cost, in part because non-professional or support staff may use it as a punishment, and the motivation may be revenge rather than behavior management. Sometimes taking away a reinforce after it has been earned will generate some pretty unmanageable or even dangerous behavior. Sometimes support staff will use response cost just to get the student to flip out so they can be removed from the classroom and placed in an alternate safe setting (this used to be called isolation.) Token Boards for Classroom Management A token board is one of several different  visual schedules you can use to support classroom management. If you have a reinforcement schedule based on the board, you can specify either a token for each completed tasks or a combination of appropriate participation and work completion. If you give a token for each completed worksheet, you may find that your students choose only the easy ones, so you may want to offer two tokens for a particularly difficult activity. A Reinforcement Menu A menu of reinforcement choices is helpful, so your students know they have a range of choices that are acceptable. You may create a choice chart for each individual child, or permit them to choose from a larger chart. You will also find that different students have different preferences. When you create a students choice chart, it is worthwhile to take the time to do a reinforcement evaluation, especially for students with very low function.

Case Law Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

Case Law - Essay Example The focus of this report will be to examine the two decisions to discover the inconsistencies and assess the reasons for them. The basic issue at stake in both the cases is that of defining the extent of individual liberty and freedoms that may be exercised under the constitutional amendments to the Constitution in the context of the wider moral framework of public morality and codes of behavior. The suit was brought by defendant Hardwick who was charged by the Georgia State Government for criminal violation of the state’s statute that criminalized sodomy. Hardwick challenged the constitutionality of his criminal conviction, since it violated his fundamental rights. The District Court supported the State’s position but the Court of Appeals reversed the decision. However, the Supreme Court upheld the constitutionality of the Georgia statute. In connection with the issue of fundamental rights of the defendant, the Court stated: â€Å" None of the fundamental rights announced in this Courts prior cases involving family relationships, marriage, or procreation bear any resemblance to the right asserted in this case. And any claim that those cases stand for the proposition that any kind of private sexual conduct between consenting adults is constitutionally insulated from state proscription is unsupportable† [pp 190-191] The Supreme Court supported its position by quoting the case of Stanley v Georgia3:†Ã¢â‚¬ ¦..the fact that homosexual conduct occurs in the privacy of the home does not affect the result.† (pp 195-196). During the period when this case was prosecuted in the courts, most states had laws that criminalized homosexual behavior between two consenting adults even if it was carried on in the privacy of their bedrooms and the decision reflected the predominant view of the majority of Americans about the illegality of homosexual behavior. A 5-4 majority in the Supreme Court upheld Georgia laws on sodomy which criminalized the act on grounds of

HS610 Week 7 Conference - Essay Example xlvii). It simply means that risk assessment and management efforts entail assuming a proactive stance to prepare through awareness, prevention, protection, response and recovery measures (Kamaien, 2005). In an article written by Healy (2011), the possible futures of cyber conflict and cooperation reveal the extend and degree of vulnerabilities and threats of cyberwar; thereby, recommendations have been divulged to include â€Å"quickly patching vulnerable or infected computers, making it difficult for attacks to transit the core networks, and engaging in a dialogue with international partners to find areas of common concern and mutual action† (p. 6). The efforts to engage in continuous dialogue prove that there is a need to monitor and regulate activities in the Internet to avoid damage to users. Finally, in a published report by the Homeland Security (2011) on â€Å"Blueprint for a Secure Cyber Future†, it was emphasized the cyberspace poses the most serious threat to national security; therefore, in line with the vision of securing cyberspace more effectively, it was disclosed that â€Å"regulatory agencies will have the tools and staff needed to ensure that regulated entities implement appropriate security measures† (p. 5). As such, the efforts to regulate diverse activities and information in the Internet have been acknowledged to be eminent to make cyberspace ultimately secure. Healy, J. (2011, December). A Comparison of Healthcare in Canada and the United States Essay

Canada’s healthcare system started in 1946 and is made up of a group of socialized health insurance plans that provides coverage to all Canadian citizens. It is publicly funded and administered on a provincial or territorial basis with in the rules set by their federal government. Since the late 1960’s Canada essential has had a universal health insurance system covering all services provided by physicians and hospitals. In 1966 Lester B Pearson’s government subsequently expanded a policy of the universal healthcare with the medical care act. Canada’s healthcare system is the subject of political controversy and debate in the country. While healthcare in America began in the late 1800’s but was truly born in 1929 when Justin Kimball introduced low cost healthcare to teachers in Dallas. Healthcare in the US is mostly privately funded but we do have a few publicly funded entities, such as Medicare and Medicaid. By 1971, all Canadians were guaranteed access important medical services regardless of income, employment, or health. Canada has one of the highest life expectancies and he lowest infant mortality rates of industrialized countries, which many attribute to Canada’s health care system. In 1984, the Canada Health Act was passed. This act added provisions that prohibited extra billing and user fees for covered services. To support the ten year plan, the federal government increased health care to the Canada Health Transfer from 2006-2007 until 2013-2014 to provide growth in federal funding. On the other end the United states private for profit insurers based our premiums on age, gender, health status, and pre-existing conditions only covering the healthiest people and avoiding the sickest individuals which in turn e... ... a lot of criticism about the wait times; some have been known to wait in the emergency room for four hours. Although on the other hand, there is an upside to having to wait. By prioritizing the high risk patients verses the lower risk patients, help to eliminate patient mortality rates. The government has since stepped in to help alleviate the long wait times. Unfortunately, the wait times on average are just as bad, if not worse here in the states, with one important difference. In Canada no one gets turned away, while in the states, if you do not have the proper documentation according to your plan, you may end up waiting double the amount of time. Works Cited †¢ G.G. Program for At Risk Young Adults to Aid Them in Achieving Their Future Purpose Essay

This program is designed for offering novel learning experience to the young adults who are going through the transitional phase of their lives. This program has identified the older adolescents as one of the parts of population at risk since they experience difficulty in adapting and growing healthily in both the adult world and the world of adolescents. This at-risk program is gives complete emphasis on the proper physical and psychological development of these young adults understanding their psychological crisis and the related personal, social, and behavioral characteristics. This program has a marked social importance as the young adults form one of the most vulnerable sections of the society with their recent exposure to the outside world. The program will target at identifying those young adults who have not been able to realize their potential and help them grow emotionally and professionally. (Internet Special Education Resources, 2009) The students are the potential resources for this at-risk program that have to be utilized for the success of this program. Before identifying the students for this particular undertaking, it will be essential to chalk out a plan on what the program needs from the students to accomplish in the end and what concepts and skills should the students acquire before they are chosen as eligible resources for the program. Since the aim of the program is to serve young men and women the students will be offered intensive trainings on both the common and distant problems faced by the people going through this transitional stage and make them better informed about both the long-term and long-term remedies. Those students will be taken as the resources that will respond quickly and positively to the training sessions. The program on at-risk younger adults is of immense relevance for the students, as they themselves have to experience this transitional stage in short span of time. The program will contain extensive information on multi-faceted experiences, which every individual goes through. The program also addresses a variety of behavioral and psychological conditions experienced by those who are on the verge of being adults and yet to leave the adolescent status. Instead of adopting a pedantic approach, the program will focus more on covering the major issues in a student-friendly manner. The contents of the programs are unambiguous details on non-clinical treatment and other services, which should be rendered for specific instances. Considering the chances of the students going through the same phase later towards their life, the program will be designed to make them conscious beforehand about the prospective experience they are going to witness. Since the old teenagers are to be trained well to cope up with the manifold layers of pressures concerning employment and other social activities, the program will include the important prerequisites for being able to absorb, process, and combine information in the most prolific manner possible for them. In order to make the program more realistic and acceptable to the target population, the instructions and strategies for career development will be in compliance with the actual reality where the adult world is living. This is of imperative concern for the designers of the program that the instructions mean to be disseminated to the at-risk young adults should not be far from the stark realism so that they do not find a wide gap between their learning and their actual experience and they can certainly relate to the real marketplace situation in the world. (Internet Special Education Resources, 2009) Besides the students, the program can take help of additional social resources available in the community that can be employed for higher success. The sociologists dealing with this specific domain of young adults can be counted upon for sharing their valuable opinions and view-points concerning the physical, emotional and sociological disturbances experienced by the people of that age. The responsibility of making the student equip with these information is to be conferred upon them. To make the program more intense and subjective therapists and clinicians from the community have to be utilized as the social resources. This at-risk program will certainly have a serious impact on the young adults who need a planned living program and recovery support. Following this program will help young men and women to recover form their present condition and render them the professional support through the sociologists, clinicians and the therapists. The program is beneficial for the students who need added support while pursuing their higher educational goals. Both these young people and their parents will be infused with new insights and knowledge that aid them in their personal and social success. The program targets some vital factors which affect their all-round development. Adherence to the instructions laid down in the program ensures academic success and integration of young adult independent living skills. The program helps the target students of the community in introducing healthy pursuits to improve social skills and building a sense of community. It also aims at helping these young adults to recover from substance abuse and addiction. (Northstarcenter. com, 2009) Some essential steps are to be taken for implementing this at-risk program. Developing a strategic plan based on the unique needs of young adults is integral to proper implementation of the program. Conducting a community analysis and assessing the needs of the target population plays a pivotal role in designing the program in the most effective manner. Identifying the youth serving agencies in the community and co-operating with them to understand the approaches suitable for treating various cases is rudimentary for proper implementation of the program. (Young Adults Library Services Association, 2003) The program has to be designed in order to recognize the educational approaches for high risk young adults and ensure a safe and healthy environment for the students. School committees have to be established which will work with the teachers and parents in promoting awareness and program development with community participation. (Theodore, pg 332). This program will be able to reaching out to young people and win support by working with parents and local leaders. Through this comprehensive program it is expected that policy barriers will be removed. It will further encourage the students to participate in the program and put their effort in developing it. The program intends to specifically help these young people to do what they need to do. Comparing the Anti-Social Plays of Cyrano de Bergerac and...

The Anti-Social Plays of Cyrano de Bergerac and Night of the Iguana nbsp; Cyrano is clearly a better example of an anti-social play than Night of the Iguana: Not only is this shown by the main characters and their relationship to each other, but more important, it is shown in the themes of these two plays. nbsp; Shannon is unmistakably an ideal character for an anti-social play: While Cyrano may be alienated from society, it is, in many ways, through his own choice. For instance, he could have a position at court with his skill with poetry, but instead he chooses to follow his own conscience: What would you have me do? ... like a creeping vine on a tall tree, crawl upward? ... No thank you! Cyrano wants to make himself in†¦show more content†¦(At the trial of Galileo in 1615, Cardinal Bellarmine declared, To assert that the earth revolves around the sun is as erroneous as to claim that Jesus was not born of a virgin). Eventually, most people began to believe scientific theories about the nature of the universe, rather than religious dogmas. A deistic philosophy emerged and became influential, differing from Christianity in viewing God as a great clock maker who was above any petty worship that humans could give him. The deistic view was a harmonious consolidation of religious and sc ientific beliefs into one (usually deterministic) philosophy. nbsp; However, the deistic world-view was not able to withstand the twin blows of Gouml;dels Incompleteness Theorem and Heisenbergs Uncertainty Principle, which came at the beginning of the twentieth century. Briefly, these two developments state that an absolute limit exists to the knowledge that can be understood by scientific and logical means. This, I believe, is where the anti-social play becomes important: it reflects societys belief that there is nothing to believe in anymore. The emergence of many philosophies (such as existentialism, atheistic satanism, objectivism, nihilism, and hedonism) which focus on despair or selfishness also reflects this. Anti-social plays, of which we
